Walls are Tilted Up at new Seneca Beverage Facility
Thursday, July 01, 2010
The design/build project includes a new 79,000 square-foot warehouse and 11,000 square feet of office space that will provide them with expanded capabilities in distribution. Welliver McGuire Inc. of Montour Falls is the construction manager on the project, which broke ground in the fall of 2009. The walls were constructed using a tilt-up system, which consists of site-cast concrete panels that are poured and formed on the project site then tilted up into place by a crane onto a previously cast floor slab. The wall panels feature a THERMOMASS insulation system sandwiched between the concrete that will significantly reduce Seneca Beverage's heating and cooling costs. This construction method has been utilized by leading beverage distributors across the country. CON/STEEL, who has been providing tilt-up construction since the 1970's, is a strategic partner of Welliver McGuire and together, they erected the panels for Seneca Beverage within one week and with no accidents. The tilt-up system is flexible, versatile and efficient, allowing for a fast-track timeline to be employed. The new Seneca Beverage location is slated to be ready for move-in this fall and will feature advanced cooling systems, additional loading docks and an integrated heating/cooling system, which will provide significant cost savings for the company and shift the energy demand.
