Welliver McGuire Inc. has recently received the 2007 GBC (General Building Contractors) Safety Excellence Award, for the Building Division (225,000 hours worked and up), in recognition of the safety performance which far exceeded industry standards.

The criteria for elibility for the award include a current Workers' Comp experience rating (EMR) less than or equal to 1.00, and Incidence Rate 25% or more below The Associated General Contractors of America's (AGC) average, an accident prevention and training program, and an actively enforced disciplinary program for employees as well as for subcontractors.  A company must also demonstrate "dedication and commitment to maintaining safety on their jobsites," which Welliver McGuire has successfully implemented year after year.

The GBC Safety Excellence Award is not a conventional competition with winners in each of the entry categories.  Instead, awards are given to recognize and honor GBC Members with excellent safety programs that meet the established minimun criteria, criteria that exceed industry standards.  Consequently, GBC Members are compared to thei AGC peers, thus comparing construction safety in New York State to other states.  GBC requests a company's past history, which is reviewed and compred to their current history focusing on which direction the trend is heading.  Finally, a random, unscheduled inspection is incorporated to view on-site implementation of company safety programs.
