MONTOUR FALLS, NY – A local contracting company has been recognized for its part in building a large facility in Albany where advancement in some of the smallest kinds of science will be made.

A client of Welliver McGuire Inc., Empire State Development, received the Silver Award in the "Biggest Deals $150 million-$500 million" category for the nanochip research and development center at New York's Albany Center of Excellence in Nanoelectronics.

Welliver McGuire is based in Montour Falls.

"They (Welliver McGuire) have been an outstanding partner to work with and have proven to be expert builders and construction managers with a true focus on quality," said Thomas Yurkewecz, of Albany Nanotech.  The winner of the Silver Award is chosen by the editors of Business Facilities Magazine.

The building is part of the Albany Nanotech complex.  The complex is the home of the University of  Albany, Center of Excellence and the College for Nanotechnology, and will be a research and development center for ASML Holding NV, based out of Amsterdam.

ASML and IBM Corp. are working together with the state to create a $400 million research and development center.  The intention is to unite global technical expertise with advanced technologies to develop the nanoelectronics industry, which works to manufacture products at the molecular level.

Locally, Welliver McGuire is building the 176,000 square-foot US101A Presidential Helicopter Facility at Lockheed Martin in Owego.  The facility will house the program's administrative offices, systems integration laboratories and an aircraft integration hangar.

Also in the works are the $175 million West Campus Residential Initiative at Cornell University in Ithaca and a building in Horseheads which will be a branch office for the Corning Credit Union.
